Barbara J. Weber - Soundscapes

Winning 1st prize for her Symphonic Tone Poem entitled “Exodus” at the 2008 “Bible Art Show” in Long Beach, NY was just one of the recent elements that inspired a classical trained violinist to consider composing for film. The piece, “Exodus” based upon the famous biblical scene where Moses leads the Jews out of exile from Egypt was electronically composed on a Mac computer. It simulates a full orchestral sound complete with strings, brass, percussion and an array of sound effects depicting the parting of the Red Sea as well as elements in the famous flight.

Since then, Barbara’s music has appeared in two films. One is a documentary, “What Does It All Mean?” which asks questions regarding faith.  She has also scored an Indie feature entitled “Let Me Out.” It is scheduled to appear at the New York International Film and Video Festival this March.

Fueled by a tremendous range of musical appreciation, the content of her music has been greatly influenced by a number of diverse musical styles and artists; from the minimalism and ambience of John Adams, Jon Michael Jarre, Andreas Vollenweider, and Brian Eno, to the tangos of Astor Piazzolla , the trance of Paul Van Dyk and the consonant harmonies and melodies of Stephen Sondheim. Additional composition credits include a series of live performances of her “Iberian Rhapsody” a solo unaccompanied work for violin performed by violinist Neal Wackenhaimer on several occasions in and around the Forest Hills, NY area and in Rhode Island. Ms. Weber grew up in Brooklyn, NY. She was introduced to the violin while in the New York City school system. Quickly excelling in the instrument, she attended the High School of Performing Arts and The Juilliard School. She was a student of the esteemed violin pedagogues Christine Dethier and Ivan Galamian. Ms Weber also has an MFA degree from Brooklyn College in Theatre Management. Following an internship program, she was hired by Columbia Artists Management, Inc. (CAMI) and became part of a world famous management team responsible for bringing Vladmir Horowitz back to the concert stage in the 1980’s (one of his final concerts.)
